This is where you can include “zingers” from each day.Zingers are memorable lines, cool lines, poster material lines, lines that inspire, lines you can tell your grandchildren about. You follow?
"Writing is reading something through someone else's eyes." - Anthony John - (because an English accent makes lines like these more awesome in that moment >_<)
"You don't see cavemen posting 'To cold out of cave. Me stay inside." -Corey Benson. He did a great job, so funny!
"The world is a better place, but people will miss Kelly's Corner and John McMan." -Bill McClellan. This really made me think about how society changes before our eyes. Only 30 years ago this was a completely different world.
interview-ee: "That wasn't me, I didn't say that!" Bill: "Well, you probably didn't." -Bill McClellan. Poor guy, the whole auditorium was giggling when he couldn't hear anything. But he obviously thinks it's funny too.
"Sometimes things can turn from good to bad and from bad to good." -Arianna. This quote reminded me of Macbeth.
"I bought a black [du-rag] because goes with everything and I could wear it for formal occasions... like my funeral." -Grover Smittle. He had so many hilarious lines in his piece, but this one in particular got a lot of laughs.

"Heartache- a guaranteed companion when it comes to missing someone"- Jessica Wilke This just really made me think, recently I have dealt with numerous deaths and heartache truly is always there when you miss someone.
"... that I would end that day not only alive but living."- Jessica Wilke I thought that Jessica did a fantastic job and to think that she was that brave to talk about some of the most intimate hardships of her life is crazy. This line just spoke to me because a lot of people go through life without truly living.
"If you mess with me, I'll dial you up." -Chris Crutcher When I heard of Crutcher's title of one of his books (King of the Mild Frontier), I instantly liked him just based on the fact that he twisted the title on an Adam & the Ants song but yeah. Overall I thought Crutcher's telephone was really entertaining and I thought the line above just oozed fantastic word play, so I dug it.
"You do not phase me"-Andrea Sherod. I loved Andrea's poem. It was a poem that anyone or person can relate to. I thought ,y senior year was going to be drama free. Boy, was i wrong or what. This year has been filled with more drama than my last three years combined but, you know what in the word of Andrea, "You do not phase me"
"She worries about me so much some days it feels like I'm watching a windshield wippers on high speed"- Buddy Wakefield. This was one of my favorite quotes from buddy wakfield. It reminds me of my mother when my brother comes home at two am in the morning. It is funny to see my mom panic, but don't tell her I said that.

"Mama don't tell the abridged version" -Buddy Wakefield I found this line humorous because I could just picture a mother going on and on about everything and nothing at the same time.

"My body is a dead language and you speak each word perfectly." -Sierra Demulder

"If I could take her heartache, I'd do it in a heartbeat." -Endia Lumpkins
"Hatred is drinking poison and hoping the other person dies." -David Cullen
Student "How much money did you make in the begining?" *Arthur Shivers & Syvester Chison flip back to the picture of the bucket and hose in their slideshow* "That was my bucket and that was his hose..." He then went on to explain how it wasn't much in the beginning but with hard work it grew.

"Whoever snatched my tofu in frigid air better come back for it" -David Clewell This was funny! I enjoyed him talking about how gross tofu was and I thought this line was simply perfect!
"God is everyone happening at the same time" - Buddy Wakefield. This was a great quote considering that there are so many people who fight over what there might be out there as far as religion, but no one is focused on what anyone is doing right now.
"Drama in highschool isn't worth caring about and I hoped to get rid of it by senior year" - Andrea- I really liked this quote and the poem she wrote because I have realized that so many people in highscool think that it is the end of the world when someone says something bad about them. But in truth, we have the rest of our lives to live and chances are that the person who "doesn't like you" won't even matter to you when you get out in the real world.
" If you want to sit in front of me and pop your gum, then you can feel free to leave" - Buddy Wakefield- I really liked this comment because it wasn't part of the presentation at all and it was great to see someone called out and then freeze in their seat as they realized that they were wrong.
“The teachers think they own all of us, but really they don’t have enough money to pay for a bus.” -Elliot Littlejohn
“My name is Elliot Littlejohn, and I am in no way related to the rapper Little Jon.” Even though this wasn’t a part of his actual writing, I found it to be funny and memorable. It made for a good introduction.

“Because this eve was the only one that mattered.” -Nick Oswalt
Thursday:
“You can’t win a war within yourself unless it’s in your imagination.” -Daniel Sanders
“This is my fight, my battle, and I’m winning.” -Brent Doering
“All of the mistakes in life take us somewhere.” -Sierra Demulder
Okay, so here it is. "Hearts don't break; they bruise and get better."- Buddy Wakefield. First of all, woah. It was hard not to write down every line he said and rave about it. But this one, beautiful. A chick flick in words. It's funny how words like these manage to fall out of mouths at the perfect time. No doubt this line will stick with me forever.
Zinger two: "I don't ask you why you're straight, do I?"- Brent Doering. He couldn't have said it better. Even if you know Brent and his situation already, this really makes you feel for him. I think this line hit hard on the chests of every single student in the audotorium. Amazing, Brent. Your courage is amazing.
And the third... "Am I hot or cold with you, dear?"- Leslie Sanazaro. I am so glad I was able to come see her performance. Falling in love with her music right away wasn't hard. I believe songs put simply said things into beautiful rhyme.
(2/28/2011) A story that stuck out to me that day was Mr. Schmidle’s humor of his cancer. He made it easy to listen without putting me to sleep. I learned from his story that no matter what life throws at you, you must keep smiling and living life to the fullest. Make yourself laugh, stay positive, and maybe find interest in your doctor. Maybe it is these things he taught that excused him from his cancer. Like he said he dodged a really big bullet. Enjoy life even in moments of potential defeat.
(2/28/2011) These performers were outstanding. All of them inspired me to write more than I usually do. Like Tori's piece from day one of Writer’s Week, “The Freshman Thinks He Owns the Place”. This one really stuck out to me. I love how she analyzed how people really do get 'big headed' in new situations. If anything, they should be more humble if they're new. It's true how people feel big as seniors and then get to college or the navy and feel like they own the place, but little do they know that they are the newbie’s and they must pay more respect to those with seniority. It's almost a viscous cycle of pride. Too much pride ,then to not enough pride. This all goes back to hubris. The hubris can make a person believe they are beyond what they are. It's all tied into one cycle similar to the hero cycle. You'll be on top one day and then the next you can't save the world. You're just a nobody. The gist of it was once a person is settled in they’ll learn that being new is not a privilege.
(3/2/2011) "Don't give up on them or you!" Mr. Holmes caught my ear with this wake-up-call of a poem. Now this is what I call slam poetry. He made me feel what he felt when he wrote this piece. His passion about making the world a better place by simply just "caring more" made a difference in my life. Hopefully in writing this his goal was to convince others that being a good Samaritan will make you feel good as a person. His style of argument made it ten times more convincing than if he just gave a speech. He wrote it to target every audience, especially the young people. It would be hard to argue against this word of truth.
(3/2/2011) Day two of Writer’s Week captivated me with a man named Dave Cullen. He was a little boring, but if you actually took the time out to hear what he was saying, you’d be really intrigued. What he went through to write his book was amazing. He made a whole trip just to get inside the psyche of murderers and their victims. He said “It’s like they changed overnight.” The victims went through a lot so they just shut down. He said ,"They were frantic and chaotic on the day of the incident then the next day they were like emotionless zombies. No one hugged or spoke much during the vigilant." This is a story I want to read to my grandchildren because it's so captivating. It makes you want to learn more. As tragic as it is, I really love listening to it and finding out more than I knew before.
(3/4/2011) The next day of writer’s week was relaxing. I will always remember Brandon Swanson playing his guitar and singing his own lyrics to his song about being free and just being able to live his life. The meaning behind this piece was to live worry free. He really made the audience feel tranquil and free. As we listened to his song it put us in the mind set of a rock concert. He seemed famous to me on stage and we were his fans. The thing that really stuck out to me was when he said "I just wana live my life." That seems to be the quote for every teen. People just want to live how they want to.
(3/4/2011) Ironically the same day as the guitar /singer, two girls got on stage and stated at the end of their skit, "Truth is, I'm scared." That was ironic to me because the guitarist said he just wanted to live his life with no worries. Then they get on stage and say they're scared. One person is saying how people wish to live and two others are saying what everybody feels in life. The two emotions are contradicting, but very true. But these emotions have one thing in common, they cannot be helped. No one can do anything about changing these things. We're only human.
He his ruler, he is emperor-all powerful in this jungle...She approached the trunk of the car and started to dig around, when Neal thought of the gun...Its just a matter of time before the fire goes out...I gave up my school work and my social life for you...Doctors told me that the tumor was inoperable and there were no treatments for this type of cancer...I watch an episode of Jersey Shore which causes me to tease my hair into a poof...Seven nights were spent under the sounds of explosions and guns...Why am I writing in past tense?....We got off the phone, I gave it back, and we just sat in silence...Get a grasp of who you are, and hold onto it...I take what you say and it changes the score...As I entered the hospital room, I saw him covered with wires and a breathing mask...
"My mom is the strongest person"-Dena. Her poem was very moving. The poem that the student wrote kind of relates to my situation. My mom had to deal with my grand-mother's death and it was very difficult for her. She was close to my grandma but not like a best friend relationship. My mom is the strongest person because she was tough for me and my family. I loved my grandma even though i only got to see her once a year. When i went down to Arkansas for the funeral, I was in tears and my mom was there to comfort me. She held her end up while me and my ant Jeannie were crying. Her poem made me thim=k of my grandma because she died of breast cancer. The story of her visiting her grandma reminds me of the time i went down there to visit mine. I just don't get to do that anymore.
Okay. First of all, I just want to say that everybody who participated in Writer's Week did an awesome job! So here's my feedback for the week. Monday 3rd hour kicked everthing into high gear. Tori Courtney's poem really got me thinking about how we all really think as a class in high school. "The freshman think they own the place." Back when I was a freshman, I really did think I owned the place. The cycle was actually kind of peculiar to thik about. The sophmores finnaly knowing their place, ready and waiting for their turn. The juniors getting hungry to sit atop the throne, and the senior, "putting all the juniors back into their place". Even if it's only for a year...
Corey Benson really makes facebook look like a joke and Clint Eastwood (one of my avorite actors) look like a god!
".......Get off my lawn...." And "my grandpa will never understand iTunes"? Just an epic rant.
Teusday I was only able to see Leslie Sanazaro, but I dont mind it. She was a very talented singer. I could only stay for when she sang 'America' and 'Hot or Cold'. I can see how the line "get over your dreams America" could seem offensive to some people... Like she said it did when she sang or soldiers on her tour. I feel bad because their are dierent ways to interpret this. We all need to fanticize less about the statistically not likely things we do, and focus more on our relality. Or make your dream more like a reality instead of waiting for an opertunity to all into your lap.
Wednesday 3rd hour I saw Dave Cullen. Quite a talker, he barely had time to answer questions! His book on the Collumbine shooting, moreover the whole experience in which he saw, really hit him significantly. Honestly I dont rememeber all that well about this shooting, even though school shootings get compared to it all the time.Somethign that really struck me about what he said happened during his reporting is that the students in the aftermath were "frantic and chaotic". He said that they were hugging and clinging onto their parents when they were reunited on the day of the incident. But the very next day at the wake, they were all quiet and unresponsive. He called them "emotionless zombies". I am really interested in reading into his book. I never really gave it a thought to actually reading it until I saw Mr. Cullen and heard him speak. Mr. Holmes Poem was another presentation I absolutely loved. I think he called it 'Don't Give Up On You'. He summed up all of the negativity he sees with children everday in one peom. Very powerful..... sagging pants f*** you b****! Its what we as a society do everyday. Why do we do it? Because we want the attention, someone to care when someone who could be ver important to us doesn't. Praise to Mr. Holmes for wrapping it up all in one hell of a poem.
Thursday I was Seirra DeMulder. And boy she was AMAZING!!!!! I had honeslty never cared much about poetry, even though I'm a writer. What I saw was a story, not just on paper for someone to try and interpret until their brain leaks out of their ear canals. I heard the poetry, felt what the Seirra felt. I have a new ound respect for poetry becuase it really doesnt have to be just words on the page. Descriptions like "My body is a dead language and you speak each word perfectly." or the child with two mothers. "i dont want her to meet you yet." People in the world will think she's diefferent. "She can say she has two mothers." I wasn't expecting such a perormance... like NOT AT ALL...... it was scary how it struck me.... Maybe it was because of all it morbid-ish stuff. But to wrap it up Seirra was my favorite presentation of Writer's Week.
Friday was the half day in which Amber Simon and Molly Houghton performed their little fight scene. I think that we are all really scared o the future, something that they wanted everyone to realize and honestly think about. They really hit every part of the spectrum when it comes to individuals in high school. "The cheerleader who lets the uniorm define her, the girl who got caught up with the boy next door and has something special coming in nine months." It's reality, it happens.
Once again, good job to everybody who participated!!!
If you mess with me, I will Dial you up"-Chris Crucher. When i heard this quote it made me laugh. So if you mess with me i will get telephone man on you.
“All of the mistakes in life take us somewhere.” -Sierra DeMulden. This quote stuck out to me because in high school you hear a lot of talk about stuff people regret whether it is something they said or got in trouble for. That mistake will likely shape who you are, so you shouldn't go out and try to make as many mistakes as possible, but learn from the ones you do make.
“Failure is my competitor” -Tatiana I am stubborn and feel the same way.
“Abstinence makes the heart grow stronger.” ~Ariana “I was looking forward to dying bright yellow, crazy, and in pain.” ~Mr. Smittle “It’s on the internet, it must be true!” ~Mr. Jameson
Tuesday
“I’m just sayin’” ~Mr. Wright
Thursday
“All the mistakes in life take us somewhere.” ~Sierra DeMulder
Friday
“There’s the disabled boy, wheeling himself through the forest of people who snicker.” ~Mollie/Amber “My grandmother is most to blame. She led my mother by the hand. And I entered the promise land.” ~Mr. Ellermann
"I promise to go all the way, if only you promise to meet me halfway" -Sierra Demolder
I love this quote!! This stuck in my head all day. I even made this my Facebook status! This quote has to do with everything. If your trying to do something and it feels as though your the only one trying your not going to put forth your best effort.Having someone or something guide you along the way helps out alot than just doing it alone.
"Sometimes you don't get love in order to give love, you give love in order to become love" - Buddy Wakefield. He said he didn't write it, but it was a good one.
"You wonder if heaven exist or if its just a Santa Claus lie to help you sleep at night and be nice to others" - Sierra DeMulder
I don’t know how I could possibly limit myself to only a few “zingers” a day when the week was filled with hundreds of great lines. However, I narrowed it down to some of my favorites. I hope everyone enjoyed these just as much as I did! Here goes…
"I'm more than you will ever be, because the difference between you and me is that I care." -Brent Doering
"Open your eyes to the world for what it really is, or else tomorrow will be no different than today." -Brandon Swanson
"Never take love for granted" –Ariana
"You will never, ever, EVER have that many friends"- Corey (While very true, this had to be one of the most humorous quotes.)
"Hatred is drinking poison and hoping the other person dies." -David Cullen
“This is my fight. My battle, and I’m winning.” -Brent Doering (I loved the intensity of this.)
"I have NO clue what dating is like in America" -Mr. Holmes
“Lust of a dollar bill has tested many men’s faith” – Daniel (Possibly one of the best lines of the week. This is SO realistic.)
“Amurrrica” – (I forgot her name. I just thought it was funny.)
"Sometimes you don't give love in order to get love; you give love in order to become love.
Hearts don't break; they bruise and get better.
God is all of us happening at the same time.
and the best...
The only person you're ever going to get to be is you." -that's right. Buddy Wakefield.
"I have no clue what dating is like in America" -Mr. Holmes: unfortunately, your rant aboutwhat "talking" means as far as dating goes had me laughing too much to write any of it down, but that line I do remember.
"...coming to school one day in a Justin Bieber T-shirt, leggings, and size 12 flats.
You will NEVER have that many friends.
...my grandpa will never figure out iTunes." -Corey Benson
"If the last one was Doctor Supermodel, this one was Doctor Super-Dupermodel." -Mr. Smittle
I was out of school for the week of writers, so I only got to see one person and that amazing performer was Budddy Wakefeild. I saw him last year and loved him then too, this year did not fail to amaze me as well. He always puts my brain in gear and gives me some food for thought. Mostly he makes me think about the true meaning of love and the power of words. He has such a stage presence and a way of putting on a show with out making it seem fake. Buddy never fails to get a crowed quit with thought.
"Writing is reading something through someone else's eyes."

This was funny!
ReplyDelete"Drama in highschool isn't worth caring about and I hoped to get rid of it by senior year" - Andrea- I really liked this quote and the poem she wrote because I have realized that so many people in highscool think that it is the end of the world when someone says something bad about them. But in truth, we have the rest of our lives to live and chances are that the person who "doesn't like you" won't even matter to you when you get out in the real world.
ReplyDelete" If you want to sit in front of me and pop your gum, then you can feel free to leave" - Buddy Wakefield- I really liked this comment because it wasn't part of the presentation at all and it was great to see someone called out and then freeze in their seat as they realized that they were wrong.

ReplyDeleteZinger two: "I don't ask you why you're straight, do I?"- Brent Doering. He couldn't have said it better. Even if you know Brent and his situation already, this really makes you feel for him. I think this line hit hard on the chests of every single student in the audotorium. Amazing, Brent. Your courage is amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd the third... "Am I hot or cold with you, dear?"- Leslie Sanazaro. I am so glad I was able to come see her performance. Falling in love with her music right away wasn't hard. I believe songs put simply said things into beautiful rhyme.

ReplyDeleteA story that stuck out to me that day was Mr.

ReplyDeleteThese performers were outstanding.

ReplyDelete"Don't give up on them or you!" Mr.

ReplyDeleteDay two of Writer’s Week captivated me with a man named Dave Cullen.
(3/4/2011)
ReplyDeleteThe next day of writer’s week was relaxing.
(3/4/2011)
ReplyDeleteIronically the same day as the guitar /singer, two girls got on stage and stated at the end of their skit, "Truth is, I'm scared." That was ironic to me because the guitarist said he just wanted to live his life with no worries. Then they get on stage and say they're scared. One person is saying how people wish to live and two others are saying what everybody feels in life. The two emotions are contradicting, but very true. But these emotions have one thing in common, they cannot be helped. No one can do anything about changing these things. We're only human.

ReplyDelete"My mom is the strongest person"-Dena.
ReplyDeleteHer poem was very moving.
ReplyDeleteSo here's my feedback for the week.
".......Get off my lawn...."
And "my grandpa will never understand iTunes"? Just an epic rant.
Teusday I was only able to see Leslie Sanazaro, but I dont mind it. She was a very talented singer. I could only stay for when she sang 'America' and 'Hot or Cold'.
ReplyDeleteI can see how the line "get over your dreams America" could seem offensive to some people...
ReplyDeleteMr.
ReplyDeleteDescriptions like "My body is a dead language and you speak each word perfectly." or the child with two mothers. "i dont want her to meet you yet." People in the world will think she's diefferent. "She can say she has two mothers."
I wasn't expecting such a perormance... like NOT AT ALL...... it was scary how it struck me....
ReplyDeleteOnce again, good job to everybody who participated!!!
If you mess with me, I will Dial you up"-Chris Crucher. When i heard this quote it made me laugh. So if you mess with me i will get telephone man on you.
ReplyDelete“All of the mistakes in life take us somewhere.”
ReplyDelete-Sierra DeMulden.
This quote stuck out to me because in high school you hear a lot of talk about stuff people regret whether it is something they said or got in trouble for. That mistake will likely shape who you are, so you shouldn't go out and try to make as many mistakes as possible, but learn from the ones you do make.

I love this quote!! This stuck in my head all day. I even made this my Facebook status! This quote has to do with everything. I don’t know how I could possibly limit myself to only a few “zingers” a day when the week was filled with hundreds of great lines. However, I narrowed it down to some of my favorites. I hope everyone enjoyed these just as much as I did! Here goes…
ReplyDelete"I'm more than you will ever be, because the difference between you and me is that I care." -Brent Doering
ReplyDeleteHearts don't break; they bruise and get better.
God is all of us happening at the same time.
and the best...
The only person you're ever going to get to be is you."
-that's right. Buddy Wakefield.
"I have no clue what dating is like in America"
-Mr. Holmes: unfortunately, your rant aboutwhat "talking" means as far as dating goes had me laughing too much to write any of it down, but that line I do remember.
"...coming to school one day in a Justin Bieber T-shirt, leggings, and size 12 flats.
You will NEVER have that many friends.
...my grandpa will never figure out iTunes."
-Corey Benson
"If the last one was Doctor Supermodel, this one was Doctor Super-Dupermodel."
-Mr.
